30 Day Movie Challenge 2 – Day 19

Day 19: Favourite Subgenre

Super Heroes (Live Action)

avengers1

We all know the real answer is disaster movies, so I figured I’d expand on something not-so-known.  Though the only comics I was ever able to get my hands on when I was younger was Archie and Friends, I devoured any knowledge I could find about Spider-Man.  I’m not really sure why I liked this hero so much over others when I hadn’t even read his (or any other super hero) comics.

I may not enjoy them all, and feel the sheer number that gets released more and more lessens my anticipation, but I’ve seen them all (the ones released this century).  Good and bad, Marvel and DC, Tobey and Andrew.

Let’s keep in mind that this is about movies, not TV shows.  The shows on the CW and Netflix don’t really pique my interest.  I quit Arrow at the end of season three (and only started watching it because several people told me I had to), and the rest don’t even intrigue me.  (Except Legends of Tomorrow, but I make myself enjoy watching it because of Arthur Darvill.)

But I digress.

While I may have only read a handful of Marvel comics, I have done a bit of reading about characters and storylines, and I’m so glad they’re making movies about them (and that they’re actually made with quality now).

Since X-Men: First Class and The Avengers is taken by another topic in this challenge, I’m going to choose Spider-Man 2 for today.  Sorry, Tobey haters.

30 Day Movie Challenge 2 – Day 18

Day 18: Favourite Main Character

Jason Bourne

We all, in a way, want to be like Jason Bourne, don’t we?  Heightened perception, resourceful, super smart, and the ability to defend ourselves as easily as Ryan Gosling attracts women.

Of course we’d want all that without the amnesia, putting forth the effort to train, and being constantly pursued by the government who only wants to see us dead.  The guy just wants to be left alone and have a normal life, for pete’s sake!

Whether or not we actually want to be like him, we like Jason Bourne for who he is, and enjoy watching the action-packed moments of his life as he discovers who he is.  And makes the government pay.

And of course, I’m absolutely looking forward to the release of the next Jason Bourne movie later this month!

Day 17: A Movie That Reminds You of Home

Twister

twister-movie_00409364

Honestly, I’ve been gone long enough that I barely consider Oklahoma to be home anymore, but I’ve moved so much that nowhere else can really be called “home.”  Also, no movie really reminds me of Oklahoma, so I went the cliché route of tornadoes.

Technically, everywhere I’ve lived most of my life is part of “tornado alley.”  Not only does this mean that they’re prone to tornadoes, but also experiencing every season in one day.  And each of those states joke about how they’re the only one like that.  😐

Anyway, I digress.  But yes, that’s really the only reason I chose Twister for this topic, haha.

What movie reminds you of home?

Day 16: Favourite Chick Flick

Made of Honor

A man and a woman have been best friends since college.  Enough said.  That’s the best kind of set up for romance <3.

ARGH!  I don’t know what to say without giving away any spoilers.

Well, anyway, I love it.  It’s probably the only chick flick I could watch on repeat.  The story’s great, and the casting is perfect.  Not to mention New York City AND Scotland!

What’s your favourite chick flick?

30 Day Movie Challenge 2 – Day 15

Day 15: Favourite Animated Movie

Toy Story

toy-story-1995-wallpaper-1

I’ve seen this movie soooooooo many times.  This was still the time when Bro and I would watch a movie, rewind it (VHS, baby!), and immediately rewatch it.  Perhaps several times per day!  Every now and then, something will be said that will match, or be close to, a line in Toy Story and the rest of the scene will play out in my head, line by line.  Usually, it’s the scene at the filling station when Woody and Buzz get left behind.

I won’t sit here and prove that I’ve memorised the movie, but I will go watch it now.  And enjoy the musical creations of Randy Newman.

What is your favourite animated movie?

While watching this on repeat applies more to two or three years ago, I would still enjoy it today.

Marvel superheroes, an origin story to adore, and 1960’s fashion.  Erm, yes.

What movie could you watch on repeat?

Day 13: A Movie Everyone Raves About, But You Hate

The Nightmare Before Christmas

I’ve tried, really, I’ve tried enjoying it.  I don’t really hate it, but I’m definitely not a fan.

I’ve never been a Tim Burton fan to begin with, and it seems to be a pattern.  I just don’t understand the hype.  To each their own, I guess.

Is there a movie you hate, but everyone loves?

Day 12: Favourite Cameo

Hugh Jackman in Night At the Museum: Secret of the Tomb

maxresdefault

This is a movie series I’ve adored from the beginning.  I enjoyed how this third and final installment was progressing, when WHAT?! It’s Hugh Jackman!

He and Alice Eve cameo as themselves starring in a Camelot stage play that gets interrupted by one of the museum exhibits.  And of course, what would a comedic Hugh Jackman cameo be without a Wolverine reference?  The whole scene is pulled off brilliantly!

What is your favourite cameo?

How can I pick just one Steven Spielberg movie to watch today?

This man is a legend 😍.

He’s great at what he does.

We also share a birthday.  I was born on his 40th.  😇

You know what?  I’m going to pick War Horse to watch.  Because Tom Hiddleston in uniform.

30 Day Movie Challenge 2 – Day 8

30-DMC_2

 –Minor spoilers–

Day 8: A Movie You Thought You Wouldn’t Like, But Ended Up Loving

Taken

Complete action/suspense movie where a man’s daughter gets kidnapped for sex trafficking?  No, thanks.

Said man pursues his daughter, killing all the bastards involved who lie in his path without repercussions (in the actual movie)?  Yes.  Yes.  Just yes.

Of course, when it was over, Hubby started pointing out the things that were wrong with it.

Hubby: “He could never get away with all of that. He just created an international incident.”

Me: “Shut your mouth.  It’s perfect.”

Is there a movie you thought you’d hate, but ended up loving?
